- The Hey Neilson! website has The Dresden Files in it's top ten.
- When someone tried calling The Dresden Files the worst scripted failure on the Scifi Channel in Variety magazine that article got more negative responses than any other article published by Variety this year. The article drew 52 comments, every last one of them castigating SciFi for cancelling The Dresden Files and asking for its return. By contrast, most of the other articles had no more than 4 comments apiece.
- A New York Post review for Moonlight called Moonlight a low rent version of The Dresden Files, making it clear that critic had liked The Dresden Files. A majority of the critics reviews of The Dresden Files were very favorable, and more than a few critics were very surprised to find out the show had not been renewed. They thought SciFi had found a real winner and were amazed they let a potential hit slip away from them.
7. International Appeal/Marketing - Dresden Files fandom goes beyond the borders of the USA. Fans from all over the world are clamoring for more. Amazing! Thank you to EVERYONE who e-mailed & wrote to Sci-Fi asking for this episode!!
As I posted earlier, Storm Front was originally written and produced to be a 2 hour movie then later changed into a 12 episode series - for more info on this, check out the Podcast Interview with Mr. Wolfe. The change from movie to series resulted in Sci-Fi having the movie cut down, chopped up, remixed, & made into Episode 8 (Major continuity issues, but it did give a glimpse at the original idea) of the Dresden Files Season 1.
Since the end of Season 1, Lionsgate released the Season 1 DVD without the 2 hour Storm Front, but then Canada, New Zealand and other countries got to see it (See: Canada Gets the Full 2hr Pilot of the Dresden Files!) - Canada when Space aired the entire season in repeats, and the other countries when the series was aired for the first time after Sci-Fi Channel was added to their lineups.
So, disappointed and neglected and as the loyal viewers we are, we e-mailed & wrote the Sci-Fi Channel and asked, begged, and cajoled (maybe a little ranting involved, too) them for the full 2 hour version of Storm Front here in the U.S.
Well, it seems either Sci-Fi listened to us or decided to air the 2 hr version on their own! Though since the timeslot is so odd (dare I add: extremely inconvenient??), I tend to think it may be in response to our efforts. Either way - AWESOME!!!
March 7th/8th at 3 a.m. - Click to link to Sci-Fi's ScheduleBot.
To make sure that Sci-Fi KNOWS that we're watching - even though we don't have Nielsen boxes - we are holding a Dresden Files View-In during the airing - March 7th/8th at 3 a.m. on the Scifi.com Dresden Files Forum!
This is extremely important - everyone with Internet access MUST be there. Why?? Because the Sci-Fi Channel is holding their upfront event on March 18th at the Morgan Library and Museum. This is the event where the Execs and promo folks from Sci-Fi try to sell advertisers on the new shows. Now, I don't really know how these things work, but for them to even consider floating Dresden as a possible series again we MUST make an impression on them!
So, make yourself heard!
- Send another message to Sci-Fi Channel at feedback@scifi.com.
- Send a postcard to the Execs!
- Contribute to Hey!Nielsen by Commenting and Ranking Up the Opinions you agree with - and post your own Opinion if it's been a while since your last one.
There are over 10,300 signatures on the Petition (if you haven't signed it, please do!) to renew the Dresden Files. If ALL of us participate, it would send a message that would be impossible to ignore!!
Hey Sci-Fi - RENEW the DRESDEN FILES!!
Mr. Robert Wolfe, Executive Producer and Writer of the Dresden Files TV series, did a podcast interview with David Simkins (also an Exec. Producer on the Dresden Files) and Marc Zicree in early February that was posted on February 14, 2008.
It's a kind of long interview - 1 hr 26 min. - covering several series and topics, but there's quite a bit concerning the Dresden Files with insight from within the show. Check it out:
The main discussion concerning the Dresden Files starts at approximately 56 min. into the interview. Click HERE for a transcript of the Dresden parts.
The interview backs up the information that we have on the supposed reason the show hasn't been renewed, though this logic is extremely flawed and essentially incorrect based on viewer comments.
It's absolutely fantastic to hear our own beliefs and opinions of the series' excellence and potential for longevity and viewer adoration, are also held by the folks most closely associated with the series! The Dresden Files, when logic prevails and the series is renewed, will be selling DVD's and merchandise for years, possibly even decades like other beloved shows such as I Love Lucy and Star Trek. Genre' doesn't matter, its the loyalty and adoration that the show inspires in it's viewers that counts and the Dresden Files captures the hearts as well as the minds of nearly everyone who watches it - those who found it on TV as well as those who have discovered it on DVD.
That is rare! And the fact that it happens with a series that is only 12 episodes long probably ups the odds exponentially, but the Dresden Files does it.
What sane human would let such an opportunity pass by?
Harry and we viewers and fans would be much more happy if he were turning this sign to Open!
Sci-Fi Channel can make this happen, but they must be persuaded.
Write them a postcard and send them an e-mail and tell them you want the Dresden Files BACK for Season 2!

Send Dresden Love to the Sci-Fi & NBC Execs for Valentine's Day!
It's not too late - send belated Dresdentines! After all, the series is belated, too!
Write the cards from yourself or be imaginative and make them 'from' a character from the Dresden Files (TDF) series! Send more than one!
- Tell them you love TDF.
- Ask them to take advantage of Lionsgate's deal with the WGA (writers guild) and start production on Season 2 while nearly everything else is in repeats.
- Tell them you want Sci-Fi Channel to be successful.
- Ask for Season 2!
Start sending them NOW. The Execs are buying Internet series, 'reality' TV, and series from Canada and need to be reminded constantly about the fantastic, quality series they already own - the Dresden Files!

Ok, this is beyond awesome!!
Another studio reaches deal with the WGA
"In breaking news, movie and television studio Lionsgate has struck a deal with the WGA...
...Shows that are made by Lionsgate Television include Weeds, Wildfire and The Dresden Files..."
The writers got some fairness PLUS this could be a HUGE positive for Lionsgate, for the Sci-Fi Channel, and for Dresden Files supporters!
We've received responses from Lionsgate stating that they would be more than happy to make more Seasons of the Dresden Files. Up to now, this willingness has been a mute point for two reasons: 1) The WGA strike prevented them from writing new episodes, and 2) Sci-Fi has yet to renew the series.
Now, with their agreement with the WGA, reason number one is no longer an issue - Lionsgate can now start getting new episodes written and then put into production!
That leaves reason number 2: Sci-Fi's renewal of the Dresden Files.
To Mr. Howe, new President of the Sci-Fi Channel, I must point out: Renewing the Dresden Files now would be a stroke of genius on the part of Sci-Fi Channel!
Look at the positives here: The Sci-Fi Channel will
- SAVE money: The Dresden Files does not require a Pilot.
- MAKE money: Season 1 was a success and the audience and support for the Dresden Files has been growing steadily since the end of Season 1 due to rentals and sales of the DVD's, repeats aired in Canada, and expansion of the Sci-Fi Channel into other countries.
- FIRST with original programming: The Dresden Files can be airing Season 2 original episodes while the other Channels & Networks are still airing repeats!
- FREE Advertising: Supporters of the Dresden Files will spread the word throughout the Internet and not only help advertise the Dresden Files, but also advertise the Sci-Fi Channel's willingness to listen to their customers. Fans will start returning to the Sci-Fi Channel.
It would be in the Sci-Fi Channel's best interest - short-term and long-term - to renew the Dresden Files now!
And it would make viewers and supporters of not only the Dresden Files, but also the Sci-Fi genre' overjoyed to see quality entertainment starting to return to the Sci-Fi Channel!
